Christmas Praise

Christmas is coming! Yesssss!! And over the next few Wednesdays I want to focus on the Christmas Story--no, not Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB gun quest (though it's one of my favorite Christmastime movies)--but the true Reason for this season. The best gift we've ever received. The birth of our Savior. It's a classic. Hope you enoy:)

Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”

  1. This is a great idea, Susan! I'll be looking for your Wednesday posts! No matter how much I read the Christmas story, I always take away something new from it.

I wonder if Mary was thinking about all the judgemental stares , gossip and ridicule she was sure to endure, even as she said "I am the Lord's servant". Wow.

  5. Praise God for His Breath of Heaven! I'm so thankful that He snatches us from the grips of despair and waltzes us into Heaven's gates by His grace.

Breath of Heaven is a favorite song of mine, and this video is awesome.

    Love your posts, Susan!

  6. I sang this song for a voice class once... which I think was the last time I ever sang in front of anyone like that. I did fine, but I just cannot take that kind of pressure!!! Hey, I was at the Great Lakes Chapter Conference on November 19th (since I only live 1.5 hours away, even if it is in Indiana). I just realized that you live in MI-- and in same town as my sister-in-law and her husband. They are just finishing up their degrees at GVSU. You shoudl come to the next GL Conference. It was awesome and well worth the $30 and the drive. :D
