Which Way?

Signs. They point us in the right direction. Let us know which way to take...but how many times do we ignore them? You know, choose our way over God’s?

My hand is up and waving! Each time I use my snarky little comment. Each time I let impatience win. Or each time I hold on to my anger because I think I have a right to it—anyone relate? Oh, and don’t even get me started on those bigger moments. You know, the times God calls me onto the path He created me for but I conveniently take a detour down a path that looks, well, more fun, more important, more….anything than the one He’s pointing me toward.

Anyone out there relating to this? Thing is, when we put our foot down that path, God doesn’t stop us. He may throw up some flashing signs and try to coax us back onto the right road, but He won’t stop us from going down it. But God’s Word is really, really clear on what will happen if we stubbornly continue. Proverbs 14: 12 says “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” In fact, this is such a serious point it is repeated—word for word—two chapters later. If he's taking the time to repeat it, we better listen. After all, I’m not too keen on death. Spiritually speaking that is.

So what do we do? Seems He’s got that taken care of too. Check out Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (His loving eye - I love that!) So pull out your Bible, get in prayer, and allow Him to teach you. Then don’t just listen to the directions He gives, but follow them. After all, directions are no good if you ignore them.

  3. How true, Susan. God won't stop us if we stubbornly insist on our way, and sadly, our way does end in undesirable consequences. Thank God, that he understands our humanness, and that its never too late to turn back to Him, no matter how far we've gone. Great post!

  5. Hi Susan! I got to your blog from Jess Patch's blog... :) Love your post today - especially the Psalm. God gives us the direction, but we have to choose to follow...such a good reminder. There's a verse in Isaiah I also love, something about whether we turn to the right or left, we'll hear a voice saying, "This is the way." Love it. :)

    Great to "meet" you! :)

  6. So true. Love the picture. I'm very guilty of wanting to do things my way. When God's way is so much better for me, why do I still persist so much in my selfishness?

Thank you for the reminder to follow God's leading.

  7. Great to meet ya too, Melissa:)

Sheri, that stubborn persistence to have my own way gets me too. BTW, I've enjoyed seeing your progress - can't wait to hear you've got "the end"!
