Bookshelf Friday - Silenced by Dani Pettrey

Dani Pettrey has become one of my favorite contemporary romantic suspense authors with her debut series Alaskan Courage. I've read each one thus far, so I could not wait to get my hands on book #4, Silenced. Here's the blurb, and we'll chat on the other side:)

A relaxing day of rock climbing takes a disturbing turn when Kayden McKenna's route brings her face-to-face with a dead climber. Is it a terrible accident or something darker? When the case is handed to overburdened sheriff Landon Grainger, he turns to Jake Westin for help. With Jake's past now revealed, he's ready to use his talent for investigation again--but he could never prepare for where the mystery will take him.

Kayden's climbing expertise soon leads her and Jake to the realization that the death was no accident. And worse, it seems the killer is onto them. When strange things begin happening in Yancey, Jake is terrified that once again his world may put someone he loves in danger. But the truth is far worse than he could ever imagine.

As a reader, I've enjoyed getting to know Kayden and Jake from book one. Always in the background, their chemistry already stood out. While Silenced still functions as a stand-alone title, if you haven't read the entire series yet, I highly encourage you! The McKenna clan is such a delightful one to get to know.

This story was fast-paced from page one. I thoroughly enjoyed the rock climbing aspect and the strong female lead Kayden portrayed. Her strength only made her vulnerability with Jake that much more touching. And watching Jake move beyond his painful past to find happiness, finally, with Kayden was a fitting end to his journey...like adding the bow to this particular story:) Dani does an amazing job with heart-stopping scenes and electric chemistry between her two leads, it definitely keeps you flipping pages. Along with how she always sets up the next characters. Already I'm anticipating Reef's story and who--it seems--Dani is setting him up with.

Whether you've read this series or not, Silenced is a great place to jump in. If you're a fan of contemporary romantic suspense that pulls you straight into the story, keeps you guessing, and delivers loose-your-breath moments (both for the romance and the suspense) you'll love Silenced!
