Bookshelf Friday - Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey

Ok. So I was waiting for this book to release. It's the last one in Dani's "Alaskan Courage" series, and I have loved them all. It's always hard picking up that last book of a series, knowing you have to say goodbye to characters you've invested in for several years...a bittersweet moment to be sure. But all good things must come to an end. Here's the blurb and we'll chat on the other side.

Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now, working together as search-and-rescue for Alaska's arduous Iditarod race, a growing attraction seems to be forcing aside old arguments. Then Reef catches Kirra sneaking from camp in the middle of the night. 

Kirra's uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing: Frank's daughter has been kidnapped. Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl's life--but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.

Sabotaged opens right off with action--no surprise from Dani--and Reef and Kirra are pulled into it immediately. It's not long before we see more of the McKennas jumping in to help, which was such a treat. I love that Dani keeps us closely connected to the characters she's had us fall in love with.

The mystery of this book kept me guessing. Small snippets I'd figure out, but then I was left guessing as to others. It had me flipping pages. Watching Reef and Kierra discover they were in love was another part of the fun ride this story turned into. I so enjoyed the fact that they discovered new facets about a person they thought they'd figured out a long time ago. And while I felt the books before this one delved deeper into the POVs of the characters, Reef and Kierra's journey toward trusting and loving one another still made such a sweet romance. Coupled with the suspense and also seeing this entire family continue to grow made for the perfect ending to a wonderful series. I cannot wait to see what's next from Dani! (which she just released will be a series set in Chesapeake Bay set to release in 2016!)
